How it works

From a phone video to a link your customers can hold.

YXM Space is not a 3D tool. It is a way of showing a real thing, faithfully, to someone who is about to pay for it — through the channels you already use. Three steps. You only ever touch the first and the last.

  1. You
    Video / photos / splat
phone footage or an export from a scanning app
    →
  2. YXM Space
    Clean + optimise
crop the table, remove floaters, compress to SPZ / SOG
    →
  3. YXM Space
    Present
template → views, controls, price, buy button
    →
  4. YXM Space
    Publish
    yxmdigital.com/space/brand/product · embed · QR
    →
  5. Channels
    WhatsApp · Instagram · Web · QR
    wherever you already sell
    →
  6. Your customer
    Buy
    on your channel, not ours

Underneath: open-source Gaussian-splat tooling for reconstruction, cleanup and compression; Spark (three.js) for rendering. YXM’s work is everything the seller and buyer actually see.

01Capture

Film it like you’re showing a friend.

A scan is built from a slow video that sees the object from every side. No lighting rig, no turntable, no studio. Two minutes on a normal phone.

Capture checklist
  • ✓Daylight or bright even light. No harsh spotlight, no flash.
  • ✓Put the object on a plain surface with some space around it.
  • ✓Walk two slow loops: one at eye level, one from higher up.
  • ✓Keep the object filling most of the frame. Move, don’t zoom.
  • ✓60–120 seconds total. Slower is better than longer.
  • ✓Nothing else should move: no people, no fans, no pets.
What breaks a scan
Shiny, mirror-like surfaces
Chrome and mirrors confuse reconstruction. Glass is fine, mirrors are not.
Moving subjects
A shirt on a person who breathes and shifts will smear. Use a mannequin or a hanger.
Fast, shaky footage
Motion blur costs detail. Walk like you’re carrying a full cup.
Featureless backgrounds
A pure white infinity backdrop gives the solver nothing to track. Some texture around the object helps.
Today: scan in Polycam, Scaniverse, Luma or Postshot and send us the export (.spz, .sog, .ply, .splat). Next: upload the raw video and YXM processes it — same link, one step fewer.
02Compose

Tell YXM what it is. It builds the right page.

A plate of food should not be presented like a chair. The template decides the camera, the views, the controls and the fields — the seller just fills in a price and a WhatsApp number.

Framing

Raised 30° like sitting at the table, cropped to the plate

The point: a seller never sees a 3D editor. They say “it’s food” and the page comes out looking like a food page.
03Publish

One link. Everywhere you sell.

You get yxmdigital.com/space/yourbrand/product. It opens in the WhatsApp browser, in Instagram, from a QR code on the box, or embedded on a Shopify page. No app for the buyer. The buy button goes to wherever you actually take orders.

  • WhatsApp & Instagram
The link unfurls with a proper card — name, price, brand — so it looks intentional, not like a random URL.
  • Website / Shopify
One iframe. The same viewer, the same product record, inside your own page.
  • QR
Print it on packaging, a menu, a table tent, a market stall. Scan → spin.
  • Brand page
yxmdigital.com/space/yourbrand lists every preview. A storefront for sellers who don’t have a website.

Use cases

Four sellers, one problem: the photo isn’t the thing.

Two of these run live in the showcase on demo scans. Two are the first real captures on the roadmap — the templates are built and waiting for footage.

Live · demo scans

Kula Kitchen

Cloud kitchen · WhatsApp + Instagram only

Every order thread had the same three questions: how big is the portion, what does it actually look like, is that the real photo. Flat photos get compressed to mush in WhatsApp.

  1. 01Chef plates the dish once, films 90 seconds on a phone
  2. 02Template: Food → Plate / Top / Close-up views, portion + allergen fields
  3. 03Link pasted under each item in the Instagram highlight and the WhatsApp catalogue
  4. 04“Order on WhatsApp” opens a pre-filled message with the dish name
Aim: Fewer “send another photo” messages per order; more premium items ordered.

Toto Toys

Handmade crochet · Instagram + Jumia

Handmade means every piece is slightly different, so buyers ask for photos of the exact one they’ll get — the back, the stitching, the size next to something. That is a 20-minute chat per sale.

  1. 01Maker scans each finished piece before listing it
  2. 02Template: Product → Front / Side / Back / Detail, height + yarn fields
  3. 03Link goes in the Jumia description and the Instagram post caption
  4. 04Buyer inspects the stitching themselves; the chat is just “yes please”
Aim: Shorter chats before purchase; fewer “not what I expected” returns.

Jinwear

Streetwear drops · Instagram-first

A tee is bought on the print, the fabric weight and the fit. Product photos flatten the print and hide the drape; a 3D model of a shirt looks like plastic unless someone spends days on it.

  1. 01Wendo Tee on a mannequin, two loops of video in daylight
  2. 02Template: Fashion → Front / Back / Print detail, sizes + colours fields
  3. 03Link in bio for the drop; QR on the swing tag
  4. 04Buy button opens the Instagram shop or WhatsApp
Aim: Link-in-bio click-through to purchase; pre-orders before stock lands.

TAK Living

Furniture · showroom + Instagram

People won’t buy a KSh 60,000 chair from a photo, and they can’t all get to the showroom. The questions are always scale (“will it fit?”) and finish (“is the wood really that colour?”).

  1. 01Each piece scanned once in the showroom, scale calibrated on capture
  2. 02Template: Furniture → dimensions overlay, materials, three-quarter view
  3. 03Link in every Instagram post; QR on the showroom floor tag
  4. 04Next: “View in your room” — the same scan placed at real size through the phone camera
Aim: Fewer dimension questions; more showroom visits that convert.

Under the hood

Why this is possible now.

Gaussian splatting turns ordinary video into a photoreal 3D scene you can view in a browser. Two years ago the files were hundreds of megabytes and needed a gaming PC. Today a compressed scan is a few megabytes and runs on a mid-range Android phone.

What YXM builds vs. what it stands on
Open source underneath
  • Reconstruction (video → splat)
  • Cleanup, cropping, compression to SPZ / SOG
  • Spark renderer on three.js
YXM on top
  • Presentation templates (“it’s food”)
  • Auto-framing that ignores the table
  • Product record: price, buy link, fields
  • Links, brand pages, unfurl cards, QR, embed
  • Mobile-first delivery + analytics (next)
Honest status: viewer, templates, links, brand pages, unfurl cards, QR and embed work today. Self-serve publishing, video processing, seller accounts, analytics and M-Pesa are next. The showcase uses Spark’s sample scans, credited on every page, until the first real captures land.

Questions sellers ask

Do my customers need to install anything?+

No. The link opens in whatever browser they already have — including the one inside WhatsApp and Instagram.

How is this different from posting a video?+

A video shows the angles you chose. A scan lets the buyer choose: they stop, spin, and zoom on the exact thing they care about. It also loads faster than a video and doesn’t autoplay with sound.

What phone do I need to capture?+

Any phone from the last five years that shoots steady 1080p video. iPhone or Android. A gimbal helps but isn’t required.

What about clothes on a person?+

People move, and movement blurs a scan. For now: mannequin, hanger or flat-lay. Try-on is on the roadmap; it’s a different technique layered on top of the same scan.

Can I put it on my own website?+

Yes — copy the embed code from any product page. It’s one iframe. If you don’t have a website, your YXM Space brand page is one.

Where does the money go?+

To you, directly. YXM Space sends buyers to your WhatsApp, Jumia, Shopify or wherever you already take orders. We don’t sit in the middle of the payment.

See it working, then make your own.
